Janna Marlies Maron, Editor & Publisher
Self-proclaimed woman in progress, Janna Marlies Maron writes, edits, publishes and compulsively starts new projects. As a writer she hopes to inspire others to action by telling her personal story, and as a publisher she hopes to provide others the opportunity to do the same. She holds an MA in Creative Writing and teaches composition at Sacramento City College and William Jessup University. When she’s not curating stories for Under the Gum Tree, you can find Janna tooling around town with her husband Jeremy on their red Vespa or holding down the fort at ThinkHouse Collective in Downtown Sacramento.
Robin Martin, Senior Editor
Robin Martin is a freelance writer and editor, whose work has appeared in Narrative Magazine, Rain Taxi, Word Riot, American River Review, and others. Robin owns Two Songbirds Press, and offers publishing consultation and assistance to writers pursuing self-publishing. She performs evaluations and critiques of manuscripts and writing master class tutorials as well as editorial services, including substantive and line edits for papers, e-books, traditional fiction and nonfiction. She specializes in general fiction, biography, memoir, rock-n-roll, urban, short story, and health and nutrition books.
Kate Asche, Contributing Editor
Kate Asche, MA, is a poet/essayist and creative writing teacher. A graduate of the UC Davis Creative Writing Program, she was a finalist for the 2011 Audio Contest at The Missouri Review and has published poetry in Confrontation, RHINO and elsewhere. A trained facilitator in the Amherst Writers and Artists (AWA) Method, she teaches creative writing workshops in Sacramento and offers manuscript coaching to writing groups and individuals. She volunteers regularly for the Sacramento Public Library and the Sacramento Poetry Center and supports 916 INK, a local youth literacy organization inspired by 826 Valencia. Aimee Steffen Taber, Art Director
Aimee Steffen Taber is an artist and a freelance designer. She is constantly looking for new ways to explore her vision. Currently, this includes studying Relief and Intaglio Printmaking and Book Arts. She holds a BFA in Painting from Northern Illinois University. When she’s not finding artists to feature in Under the Gum Tree, she’s spending time reading in coffee shops throughout Sacramento and exploring the west coast with her husband Alex.
Elison Alcovendaz, Assistant Editor
Elison Alcovendaz holds an MA in Creative Writing from California
State University, Sacramento, where he won five Bazzanella Literary
Awards in fiction, creative nonfiction, and critical analysis. His
work has appeared in Gargoyle, Calliope, in parenthesis, and other
publications. He just finished his first novel, The Jack of Heartland,
and is currently working on a collection of interrelated short stories
about what it means to be a neighbor.
Kathryn DeJarnette, Assistant Editor
Kathryn DeJarnette is a dynamic editor and copywriter with a passion for design and publishing. As an assistant editor at Under the Gum Tree, Kathryn reviews and critiques creative nonfiction. With a BS in professional writing and print journalism from Missouri State University, Kathryn resides as a copywriter at Monogram Communication Services, a full-service marketing and advertising agency. Editorial contributions include Lake Lifestyles Magazine, Vacaville Magazine, Authority Publishing and American Book Publishing.
Becca Litman, Assistant Editor
Becca Litman is a research analyst by day and a freelance editor by night and weekend. A recent graduate of Cornell University, she is the former editor-in-chief of Cornell’s literary magazine, Rainy Day. Becca is passionate about literary criticism and academic publishing, and her life is sort of like a perpetual Bildungsroman.
